Professional journey.
Melody Chisanga is a visionary youth leader, education advocate, development practitioner, entrepreneur and champion of youth empowerment. She has dedicated her work to creating pathways through which young people — particularly those from underserved and marginalized communities — can thrive academically, socially and economically.
She is the Founder of Thrive Aid, a nonprofit organization committed to empowering young people through education, entrepreneurship, career mentorship and mental health support. Through Thrive Aid, Melody has led initiatives advancing equitable access to quality education for less privileged young people, including library services, scholarship linkages and free catch-up classes for learners who are falling behind academically.
Her work reflects a broader understanding that education is more than a classroom — it is about access to knowledge, developing confidence, discovering possibility and gaining the capacity to make informed decisions. This is why her work extends beyond academic support to career mentorship, mental health, community development and gender empowerment.
Melody has led community initiatives confronting difficult realities facing young people, including substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and mental health — demonstrating that youth empowerment must stand with young people not only when they are succeeding, but also when they are struggling.
She has also championed entrepreneurship training and skills development programmes designed to equip young people with practical tools to become self-reliant and active contributors to their communities — encouraging them to see themselves not only as future employees, but as creators, builders, entrepreneurs and contributors.
Through the initiatives of Thrive Aid, more than 8,000 young people have been reached with programmes centred around education, opportunity, empowerment, skills, mentorship, wellbeing and development. A particularly important part of Melody's vision is her commitment to creating pathways for girls and marginalized youth to thrive academically, socially and economically — because talent is distributed everywhere, but opportunity is not.
Melody serves on the Board of the Africa Health and Economic Transformation Institute (AHETI), a faith-based pan-African initiative dedicated to advancing health equity, economic resilience and sustainable development across Africa. She also serves as Vice President of the Board of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in Lusaka, where the work includes promoting gender equality, advancing the rights of women and children, and empowering individuals through programmes addressing sexual and reproductive health, economic empowerment, leadership and advocacy.
Beyond her nonprofit leadership, Melody is an entrepreneur. She is the owner of Vital Cleaning Services Limited, a professional cleaning company specializing in domestic and commercial cleaning services and products. Through the company, she creates employment opportunities while promoting fair wages and professional development for workers in an industry often characterized by low pay and poor working conditions — demonstrating that an entrepreneur can think about both business and people, profit and dignity, growth and opportunity.
Melody is a development practitioner holding a Master of Arts degree in Development Studies, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with Education. Her academic background connects naturally with her work — development is about people, opportunity, equity, participation and access. She has taken education beyond the classroom and into service, leadership, enterprise and community impact.
At THE FOUNDERS' CONFERENCE 2026, Melody will challenge delegates to think beyond the traditional definition of success — showing that leadership can begin with service, entrepreneurship can become a platform for empowerment, education can become a tool for transformation, and community problems can become opportunities for action.
